Quick Edits on the Canvas
A quick edit is a small change you ask for right on the canvas. Click an element and write what you want — “make this padding tighter”, “change this heading to say Welcome”, “make the button rounder” — and the AI makes that change to that one element and replies under your request. You don’t need to open AI Chat.
How do I make a quick edit?
Section titled “How do I make a quick edit?”You need to be signed in (it says Sign in to use quick edits otherwise). On the Canvas view:
- Press C, or click the Quick edit button (the bolt) in the canvas toolbar. The pointer turns into a crosshair.
- Click the element you want to change. A pin appears on it and a box opens with the cursor in Describe the change….
- Type your change and press Enter, or click Send quick edit.
The pin gets a number, and the AI’s reply appears under your message with a short status line (“Editing index.astro”, then Done). Changes that only touch an element’s styling, such as padding or colors, show on the canvas as soon as the edit lands. You don’t need to reselect the element.
You stay in quick edit mode after sending, so you can click the next element right away. Press C or Esc, or click Quick edit again, to go back to selecting.
You can also start one without entering quick edit mode: select an element and click the bolt on its label.
Can I run several quick edits at once?
Section titled “Can I run several quick edits at once?”Yes. Every quick edit starts working as soon as you send it, and several run at the same time. Each pin shows its own progress: it pulses while the AI is working and turns red if the edit failed.
Where do my quick edits go?
Section titled “Where do my quick edits go?”Each quick edit stays pinned to its element until you resolve it, even after
the canvas reloads, you switch pages, or you close and reopen the project.
They are saved with your project, in .plyed/comments.json.
If the element a quick edit points to is no longer on the page, its pin moves to the top-left corner of the canvas. You can still open it and reply.
How do I reply, resolve or delete a quick edit?
Section titled “How do I reply, resolve or delete a quick edit?”Click a pin to open it. From there:
- Type in Reply… and press Enter to ask for another change on the same element. The AI remembers the earlier messages.
- Click Resolve when you are happy. The pin disappears.
- Click Delete at the bottom of the quick edit to remove it.
Press Esc while it has focus, or click its close button, to close it. Clicking elsewhere on the canvas leaves it open on purpose, so you can compare.
When should I continue in AI Chat?
Section titled “When should I continue in AI Chat?”Quick edits are for small changes to one element: spacing, sizes, colors, radius, text. A quick edit cannot publish your site or run commands. When the change is bigger — it spans several elements or pages, needs a plan, or adds files — click Continue in chat at the bottom of the quick edit. AI Chat opens with the element attached and the whole thread in the message box, ready for you to add to and send. Nothing is sent until you do.
Notes in AI Chat
Section titled “Notes in AI Chat”In AI Chat’s browser view, C (or Add a note) pins notes to the page instead. Notes don’t change anything on their own: they go out with your next chat message, so the agent sees exactly which parts of the page you mean. You can add several notes to one message.
See Editing with AI for AI Chat.
Quick edits are available on every plan. Simple text and styling changes use a fast model; requests that restructure an element can use the default model. See Plans & Credits.
