Live Edit

Live Edit turns the page open in your browser into an editor. Select elements to talk about them in the chat, or change their text right there. Every change is written to your project’s files, the same files the canvas edits.

  1. Open your project in Plyed and open its chat in the floating window.
  2. Press the pointer in its bottom bar. It stays lit while Live edit is on.
  3. The project’s page you have on screen is armed: a bar sits at the bottom of it.

Plyed asks only when it cannot tell which tab you mean:

  • Several of the project’s tabs on screen: a pill appears on each. Click the one you want.
  • Only tabs in the background: the pill waits on them for 20 seconds. A background tab is never armed without a click.
  • No tab open: Plyed opens the page in your browser, armed.

Hover the pointer to see which page it is armed on. If it says the page has not reported its address and keeps saying so, something other than the page you meant may have taken the session: switch it off and on again. Press it again, or the bar’s own Stop, to end it. To use another tab, switch it off and on again.

Live Edit needs Chrome or Arc 116+, Safari 17+ or Firefox 136+.

Key Mode What it does
V Select Click an element to put it in the chat as a reference. Links and buttons do not fire.
N Navigate The page behaves normally.
T Text One click starts editing a piece of text.

Esc steps back: out of an edit, off the selection, then to Navigate. ⌥↑ and ⌥↓ go to the parent and to the first child.

Double-click a piece of text (in Select, or Enter on the selected one), type, and press Enter. Clicking elsewhere saves too; Esc puts the text back. The file is written, the page reloads, and your selection and scroll come back.

Text inside a component usually belongs to that one use of it: a heading’s words go into the page, not into the Heading component.

Live Edit writes only what the source can take directly. Anything else becomes a chip in the chat saying what you tried and why, ready for you to send:

  • text that comes from data or a variable, like a product title;
  • a word inside a component that repeats, which would change every copy;
  • a page on a dynamic route Plyed cannot match to a file;
  • anything while the chat is running in the cloud.

Nothing is sent until you send it.

⌘Z and ⌘⇧Z on the page, or the arrows on the bar, undo and redo on your project’s history. That history is shared with the canvas, so ⌘Z may undo a canvas edit or the chat’s quick edit: the message says which.

If the page changed while you were typing, the page tells you the text was not saved.

If the page loads scripts from other sites, the first edit asks whether to allow direct edits from it, per project. A script on an armed page can send the same edits you can: at worst it changes text in your .astro files, and you can undo that with ⌘Z. Choose Chips only if you are not sure about a page.
